It was not halal!

I just learned that the place I went to for halal meat was not halal afterall! They lied! The advertized halal and lied to our faces when we asked in person! Feels like we can never be sure... I'll have to look for a place owned by Muslims. This place was owned by Christians and we knew it, but I figured they were doing halal for good business (which it was) and had no reason to cheat us.

So in the end, they did want to just cheat us, it seems... I think it would be safer to go with Muslims, since they probably actually care about halal... I will need to look for another place!

I am DISAPPOINTED!

i would be upset too. but don't ask for halal ask for zabiha halal. Otherwise you will get a joker who will tell you its halal because it is something permissible or at the very least not pork. Learned that lesson the hard way.

This happened to me with my favorite Afghani place. Turned out it wasn't halal at all.

That's pretty low. Not cool.

NO WAY! :*( thats soo mean, yep defo be careful and look for a muslim business in UK the shop owner must have a Halal certificate up on the wall by a respected halal monitoring company , unfortunely even muslims here though have been caught selling haram meat because its cheaper. But Alhumdilah since the halal monitoring company has been started this has died down. Because of your intention and you being unaware im sure you wont be held accountable :) but they sure will. How did you find out they were lieing then? XXX

They have certificates in the U.S. too, but I'm not sure about in Canada. Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

I think there exists a certificate, but it's not that widespread. I could be wrong though.

I learned about this from sister Anisah from Anisah's Thoughts who lives close-by. Asked me what I was doing for Eid so I let her know I was getting meat on a certain known street in the area (about an hour away from me) and she said there's a place on that street that has been outed as not halal. It was the same one :(

I would feel justified in treating the owners of that shop as non-Christians, even if they say they are. That kind of behavior makes it clear they know nothing about Christianity. The Bible says that liars will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (i.e. they're on their way to hell - not because of sins, because our deeds do not save us, but because of the lack of faith shown by the deeds).

yeah..there is a certificate.but its not... how u say..."official"
Im wokring on getting u the adresses of some...
there is one right on the same street as the Al Quba Mosque in Brossard... which is actually closer than taschereau. I'ts the butcher that worked at Al Challal and quit because was nto Halal. I think the owner of the store is Egyptian too.
I stil go to Al challal for some things. like the olives..and feta cheese...and can[t really beat the prices of the fruits and veggies either... plus they have fresh mint too. I used to get chicken wings too...maple lodge..but I guess those are off the market these days since that food poisoning scare...man I miss them wings !!
caraboska... if u went there.. u would be wary from the start...I mean.. big gold chains...and macho crap.
Anyway Candice.. it's no ur fault and you will not be blamed in the day of judgment... you had best intentions Masha'Allah just think I went there for like.. 3-4 YEARS before I found out..and I did only because my husband got talking to that butcher!
Anyway there are like about 4-5 places you can go... I am trying to get the addresses of two good ones we found. We really like this one I mentioned near the Mosque though.
You know even the halal meat is not really halal completely... cause it's not only in the way it's butchered..but the way it's been brought up..fed.and treated before.. I hardily doubt them halal chickens are free range
My husband has a dream of having his own farm and butchering himself one day Incha'Allah. I would love that.. I love fresh eggs.. and fresh food.. one Day!!
